COLLEGE STATION, TX - Senior Adil Shamasdin (Pickering, ONT) and junior Philip Charm (Concord, MA) picked up their second straight NCAA Doubles win on Friday afternoon to advance to Saturday's Quarterfinals.
After upsetting the 12th-ranked team in the country on Thursday, Shamasdin and Charm made quick work of the 45th-ranked duo of Marco Born and Andreas Siljestrom, of Middle Tennessee State. Both teams battled back and fourth in the first set, each holding serve. With the score knotted at 5-5, Shamasdin and Charm broke their opponents' serve to go up 6-5, and then held serve to win, 7-5. Charm and Shamasdin won the second set, 6-4, to earn the match.
With the win, it marks the first time in Brown tennis history that a doubles pair has advanced to the quarterfinals. Shamasdin and Charm will face either #11 Thomas Schoeck & Luke Shields, of Boise State or #6 Mark Growcott & Ken Skupski, of LSU tomorrow afternoon.
