PROVIDENCE, RI - Senior co-captain Phil Charm (Concord, MA), of the men's tennis team has been named the Northeast recipient of the ITA/Arthur Ashe Award for Leadership and Sportsmanship. Charm, along with the seven other regional award recipients, is now a finalist for the National Award, which will be announced May 22nd. The ITA/Arthur Ashe Award goes to a player who has exhibited outstanding sportsmanship and leadership as well as scholastic, extracurricular, and tennis achievements.
A First Team All-Ivy selection in doubles this season, Charm served as a co-captain for the Bears, compiling a 17-13 record in singles and a 26-14 mark in doubles, teaming mostly with freshman Chris Lee (Sudbury, MA) at the #1 position, where they went 8-4 with a 6-1 mark in the Ivy League. Charm also been paired with junior Dan Hanegby (Herzliya, Israel) in the fall to win the ITA Northeast Region Doubles Championship, qualifying for the National Indoors, while achieving a National ranking of #25.
An All-American in doubles last season, Charm currently ranks fifth all-time at Brown with 86 career doubles wins, and 10th all-time at Brown with 143 combined wins.
A double-concentrator in Public & Private Sector Organizations and Sociology, Charm hopes to work in New York City following graduation.
