Brown Men's Tennis Receives NCAA Playoff Berth

The Brown men's tennis team, who captured the Ivy League Championship for the first time ever, has been selected to play in the NCAA Division I Championship, and will play the ninth-seeded University of Mississippi in Oxford, Mississippi on Saturday, May 11, 2002.
The 64-team field for the championship is broken down into 16, four-team brackets. There are 31 automatic qualifying conferences. Mississippi, ranked 7th in the final poll, posted a 17-5 overall record and will host the four-team bracket, which includes Alabama (15-7) against Middle Tennessee (16-7).
Brown captured its first-ever Ivy League Championship with a thrilling 4-3 victory over defending Ivy champion and 27th ranked Harvard two weeks ago. The victory capped off an undefeated Ivy League season for the 50th ranked Bears, who posted a 7-0 Ivy mark, 13-9 overall. Since Brown joined the Ivy League/Eastern Intercollegiate Tennis Association 41 years ago, Brown's best finish ever was 7-2 and second place in 1988 and 1989.
