Most college tennis teams go on a Spring Trip to pad their schedule with wins and spend some time in the sun. Brown coach Jon Choboy challenged his men's tennis team by competing against four of the nation's top 44 teams and it paid off with a victory over 22nd ranked Tulane, 4-3, the highest ranked team the Bears have ever beaten.
Prior to the Tulane victory, the Bears lost to #44 North Carolina, 4-3 and #24 Wake Forest, 7-0. The Bears also defeated Virginia, 5-2, and lost to #39 Virginia Tech. The hard-fought victory over #22 Tulane came from a strong singles showing where the Bears captured four of six matches.
Junior Justin Natale (Flushing, NY) led the was at number one with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 victory. The Bears were also strong in the last three positions. Junior co-captain Chris Drake (Needham, MA) rallied for a 0-6, 6-0, 6-2 victory at number four, while freshman Adil Shamasdin (Pickering, ONT) earned a 6-3, 6-7 (3), 6-3 decision at number five. Freshman Nick Goldberg (Albuquerque, NM) picked-up a 6-0, 6-1 victory at number six to seal the win for the Bears.
