Men's Tennis Downs Furman

Nick Malone The Brown men's tennis team improved to 7-5 on the season, defeating the 61st-ranked Furman Paladins on Thursday by a 4-3 score.

Furman won the doubles point, as the Bears managed just a single win in the three doubles matches. Nick Malone and Kris Goddard overcame a late charge in the first doubles matches to win 9-7, but Furman took the second and third doubles matches to win the doubles point.

Brown started strong in the singles matches, winning at both first and second singles. Chris Wolfe took the win at first singles by 6-3, 6-3 scores, and Malone followed suit at second singles with a 6-3, 6-2 win. After the two teams split third and fourth singles, with Chris Drake winning at fourth singles for the Bears with a dramatic, two-tiebreaker win 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (10-8), Ben Brier delivered at fifth singles to clinch the win for Brown. He downed Furman's Patrick Fillnow 6-3, 6-3 in straight sets for the victory.

Brown takes on Charleston Southern on Friday afternoon.
