MEN'S TENNIS CAPTURES ECAC CHAMPIONSHIP

The top 16 teams in the region came together for the ECAC Championship in Cambridge, Mass., with Brown coming into the championship as the number two ranked team in the region. The Bears departed as ECAC Champions, earning their first ECAC Championship ever.

Coach Jon Choboy's team dominated play throughout, defeating Stony Brook (7-0), Cornell (6-1), Princeton (6-1) and Yale (4-0) in the title match.

Brown's total dominance of the tournament translated into the Bears winning 30 of 33 matches played, including 22 of 24 singles and 11 of 12 doubles matches. Sophomore Jamie Cerretani (Reading, MA) was 4-0 in singles play and 4-0 in doubles competition. Senior co-captain Nick Malone (Greystones, Ireland) was 3-0 in singles matches and 3-1 in doubles. Junior co-captain Chris Drake (Needham, MA), freshman Adil Shamasdin (Pickering, Ontario), and freshman Nick Goldberg (Albuquerque, NM) were all 4-0 in both singles and doubles as well.

The championship gives Brown the number one ranking in the region and an automatic qualifier for the National Team Indoors in Louisville, KY February 7-11. The top 16 teams in the country will be there.
