FLUSHING, NY - The Brown men's tennis team (2-0), seeded second in the ECAC Championship, advanced to Sunday's semi-finals, with a 5-2 victory over Cornell, the seventh seed in the tournament. The four-day event is held at the US Tennis Center in Flushing, NY.
In what is a rare occurrence for the Brown men's tennis team, the Bears dropped the doubles point, posting just one victory in the three matches, winning at #3. Sophomore Scott Blumenkranz (Portola Valley, CA) and freshman Sam Garland (Bradenton, FL) combined for an 8-5 victory for that point, but Cornell took the doubles point with wins at #1 and #2.
Brown rebounded in singles action, taking five of the six matches, including four in straight sets, to post the 5-2 victory. Junior Dan Hanegby (Herzliva, Israel) picked up a 7-5, 6-4 win at #1, while junior Eric Thomas (Cincinnati, OH) earned a 6-3, 6-1 win at #2.
Sophomore Saurabh Kohli (Colaba, Mumbai, India) posted a 6-2, 6-4 win at #4, while sophomore Michael Scherer (Potomac, MD) earned a 6-2, 6-2 win at #5. Senior Luke Tedaldi (West Newton, MA) rounded out the day with a win at #6, 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (5).
