NEW YORK, NY - The 38th-ranked Brown men's tennis team (20-5, 4-0) picked up a huge 5-2 win over #58 Columbia in a battle of unbeaten Ivy teams on Saturday afternoon, to remain undefeated in the Ivy League with three matches left.
Brown picked up the doubles point to start the day and never looked back, winning four of the six singles matches to earn the victory. In doubles action, the #2 pair of sophomore Eric Thomas (Cincinnati, OH) and freshman Saurabh Kohli (Colaba, Mumbai, India) picked up a come-from-behind 8-6 win to post Brown's first doubles win. The Bears clinched the doubles point with juniors Philip Charm (Concord, MA) and Richard Moss (Johannesburg, South Africa) winning, 8-4, at #3.
In singles action, the Bears won the matches in the middle of the order, dropping points at #1 and #6 singles. At #2 singles, senior Adil Shamasdin (Pickering, ONT) picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win, while Thomas won at #3, 6-4, 6-2. Charm earned a 6-4, 6-3 win at #4 to clinch the match. Moss picked up the final singles win at #5, winning 6-7, 2-3, ret.
Brown continues action on Friday, April 22, when it hosts Dartmouth at 2:00 p.m. in its final home match of the season.
