#43 Bears Edge #61 Penn, 4-3

PROVIDENCE, RI - The Brown men's tennis team (18-5, 2-0), ranked 43rd in the nation, edged #61 Penn in an Ivy League contest on Saturday afternoon at the Erickson Athletic Complex. The Bears won the doubles point and then took three of the six singles matches to earn the victory.

In doubles action, the 17th-ranked pair of senior Adil Shamasdin (Pickering, ONT) and junior Philip Charm (Concord, MA) posted an 8-5 win at #1, while freshman Saurabh Kohli (Colaba, Mumbai, India) and sophomore Eric Thomas (Cincinnati, OH) picked up an 8-5 win at #2.

The Bears won three straight singles matches to clinch the match as Charm won his match at #5, 6-2, 6-2, to give Brown a 2-0 lead. Thomas then earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory at #3 as the Bears took a 3-0 lead. Shamasdin clinched the win with a 6-1, 7-6 (5) victory at #1 singles. The other three singles matches all went three sets, in favor of Penn.

The Bears continue action next Friday, April 15th, when they face Cornell at 2:00 p.m. in Ithaca, NY.
