PROVIDENCE, RI - The #69 Brown men's tennis team (15-9, 0-2) dropped a hard-fought battle to #74 Penn on Saturday afternoon. Brown fell behind, 1-0, after losing the doubles point with losses at #1 and #3 and then couldn't recover. Penn went up 2-0 with a win at #1 singles, but senior Eric Thomas (Cincinnati, OH), who teamed with sophomore Chris Lee (Sudbury, MA) for an 8-4 win at #2 doubles, won in straight sets at #4 singles to bring Brown to within 2-1. After Penn won at #2 singles to earn a 3-1 lead, the match came down to #3, where junior Saurabh Kohli (Colaba, Mumbai, India) and Mikhail Bekker were in a marathon match. Bekker won the first set, 6-4, but Kohli came back to win the second, 6-2. Becker edged Kohli in the third, 6-4, to clinch the win for Penn. Sophomore Noah Gardner (Cambridge, MA) earned Brown's second win, with a 6-4, 6-4 decision at #6 singles.
The Bears resume action on Friday, April 13, when they travel to Ithaca, NY to face Cornell in a 2:00 p.m. match.
