WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The 25th-ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team captured the first five points of the match and cruised to a 5-2 victory against 66th-ranked Brown (13-8) on Thursday night at Leighton Tennis Stadium.
The Deacons scored convincing victories in all three doubles matches to build an early 1-0 lead.
In singles, Wake Forest continued to roll. At #1, #63 Dan Hanegby (Herzliya, Israel) fell in straight sets to the 15th-ranked player in the country. Two more Wake Forest victories were registered in straight sets, as freshman Chris Lee (Sudbury, MA) fell at #5 and senior Luke Tedaldi (West Newton, MA) fell at #4. At #3, sophomore Saurabh Kohli (Colaba, Mumbai, India) pushed his match to three sets, but fell 6-3, 1-6, 6-2.
Brown won the final two matches of the evening at #2 and #6, respectively. Highlighting the two points was freshman Basu Ratnam's (Oyster Bay, NY) win over the 69th-ranked player in the country. Ratnam won 7-5, 2-6, 6-2 for Brown's first point. At #6 singles, freshman Sam Garland (Bradenton, FL) posted a 6-4, 7-6 win.
Brown will look to rebound next weekend with the start of Ivy competition. The Bears open the 2006 Ivy schedule on Friday, April 7, when they travel to Princeton for a 2:00 p.m. contest.
