#53 Bears Fall to #32 Boise State in First Round of Blue/Gray Classic

March 17, 2006

MONTGOMERY, AL - The #53 Brown men's tennis team (13-3) saw its eight-match winning streak come to an end on Thursday afternoon, falling to #32 Boise State, 4-2, in the first round of the Blue/Gray Tennis Classic, held in Montgomery, AL. The match was delayed due to rain, forcing the teams to play singles action first. If the two teams were tied, 3-3, at the end of singles, they would move onto doubles competition to declare a winner.

In singles action, Boise State came away with the four necessary wins, posting victories at #2, #3, #5, and #6. Highlighting the match was junior Dan Hanegby's (Herzliya, Israel) win over #23 Luke Shields at #1 singles. Hanegby, ranked #70 in the country, won in straight sets with identical scores of 6-4.

Brown's other win came at #4, where freshman Basu Ratnam (Oyster Bay, NY) picked up a 6-3, 6-1 win.

The Bears continue action on Friday, March 17th, when they face #73 Texas A&M Corpus Christi at 9:30 a.m. (CST).
