PROVIDENCE, RI - The Brown men's tennis team (10-3), ranked #63 in the nation, picked up a 5-2 win over #60 Old Dominion (5-4) in a non-league match-up on Friday afternoon at the Pizzitola Center Courts. Senior Adil Shamasdin (Pickering, ONT) led the way for Brown with a huge win over Old Dominion's Izak van der Merwe at #1 singles. van der Merwe was a First Team All-American last season and is currently ranked #7 in the country.
Brown swept the doubles point, with the team of junior Philip Charm (Concord, MA) and Shamasdin leading off at #1. The duo picked up an 8-5 victory over the #35-ranked team in the country. Freshman Saurabh Kohli (Colaba, Mumbai, India) and sophomore Eric Thomas (Cincinnati, OH) continued their winning ways with an 8-5 win at #3 doubles, while senior Nicholas Goldberg (Albuquerque, NM) and junior Richard Moss (Johannesburg, South Africa) picked up an 8-2 win at #3 doubles.
Following Shamasdin's 6-4, 7-6 (3) win at #1 singles, Thomas posted a 6-4, 1-6, 6-2 win at #3. Moss earned a 6-2, 6-3 win at #4 to clinch the match, and Kohli added a 6-3, 6-2 win at #6 for the fifth point.
The Bears continue action next Thursday-Sunday, March 10-13 when they travel to Montgomery, AL for the Blue/Gray Invitational
