March 1, 2009

PROVIDENCE, RI - The Brown men's tennis team (10-4) earned a split on Saturday, hosting Binghamton (L, 4-3) and UConn (W, 7-0) at the Pizzitola Center Indoor Courts. The Bears won the doubles point in both matches to go up, 1-0, but against Binghamton, the Bearcats, were able to win the top four singles matches to edge the Bears.

Sophomore Kendrick Au (St. John's, NF) led Brown, winning all four of his matches, while freshman Jimmy Crystal (South Salem, NY) earned a 3-0 record on the day. Senior co-captain Basu Ratnam (Oyster Bay, NY) also stepped into the lineup against UConn, filling in for senior Noah Gardner (Cambridge, MA), who went down following the Binghamton match. Playing in his first match since last spring, Ratnam combined with senior Sam Garland (Bradenton, FL) to post an 8-4 win at #2 doubles and helped Brown clinch the point.
