#43 Bears Post 5-2 Victory over #44 Virginia Tech

PROVIDENCE, RI - The #43 Brown men's tennis team (8-2) earned a 5-2 victory over #44 Virginia Tech on Sunday afternoon. The Bears won the doubles point and earned wins at the top two and bottom two singles positions to post the victory, which included four three-set matches in singles competition.

Brown went ahead 1-0 after winning a doubles point that could have gone either way. The Bears' duo of senior Phil Charm (Concord, MA) and junior Dan Hanegby (Herzliva, Israel) posted an 8-3 win at #1, but Virginia Tech earned an 8-6 win at #3 to tie the doubles, 1-1. Junior Eric Thomas (Cincinnati, OH) and freshman Sam Garland (Bradenton, FL) pulled out the win for Brown, earning a 9-8 (5) victory at the #2 position to give the Bears an early lead.

In singles action, Hanegby and Thomas won at #1 and #2, both in three sets, while freshman Basu Ratnam (Oyester Bay, NY) and senior Luke Tedaldi (West Newton, MA) won at #5 and #6 to lead the Bears. Hanegby earned a 6-4, 6-7 (3), 6-4 win at #1, while Thomas earned a 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 win at #2. Ratnam won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, at #5, while Tedaldi closed out the win at #6 with a 6-7, 7-6, 1-0 (8) win.

The Bears continue action on Monday, February 20th when they host Lafayette and Marist in a double-header beginning at 11:00 a.m.
