PROVIDENCE, RI - The Brown men's tennis team opened the 2005 calendar year with a 6-1 victory over Boston College, improving to 3-1 overall. Sophomore Eric Thomas (Cincinnati, OH) led the Bears with a win at both #1 singles and #1 doubles.
The Bears started the match off by sweeping the doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Thomas and freshman Saurabh Kohli (Colaba, Mumbai, India), ranked #60 in the country, earned an 8-4 win at #1, while senior Adil Shamasdin (Pickering, ONT) and junior Richard Moss (Johannesburg, South Africa) combined for an 8-4 win at #2 doubles. In the final doubles match of the day, juniors Philip Charm (Concord, MA) and Luke Tedaldi (West Newton, MA) earned an 8-1 victory.
In singles action, Thomas led the way with a 6-2, 6-0 win at #1, while Moss picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win at #3. Tedaldi earned a 6-3, 6-3 win at #4, while Kohli picked up a 6-4, 6-3 win at #5. Freshman Michael Scherer (Potomac, MD) won at #6, also winning in straight sets, with a 6-3, 6-3 win.
Brown continues action this afternoon when it hosts Buffalo at 3:00 p.m.
