Men’s Tennis Downs Princeton, 4-2

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Brown men's tennis team defeated Princeton, 4-2, on Sunday at the Cordish Family Pavilion and Lenz Tennis Center. The victory marks the Bears' first over the Tigers since the 2009 season.

Princeton opened with a victory in first doubles but Brown came back to win the point with freshmen Ben Collier (Darien, Conn.) and Teddy van Eck (Rye, N.Y.) recording a 6-4 win in the third spot to tie the round. Senior Aaron Sandberg (Hudson, Ohio) and junior Charles Tan (Austin, Texas) battled for a 7-5 win in second singles to gain a point for the Bears.

The Tigers knotted the match 1-1 when they opened singles play with a victory in fourth singles. Senior Peter Tarwid (Lake Forest, Ill.) then gave Brown its second lead of the afternoon with a 6-2, 6-4 showing in the top spot. Princeton wouldn't go away and again tied the match with a fifth singles win. The Bears were able to close out the match by picking up two triumphs in third and second singles. Tan first persevered in his third singles match after a second set defeat to win 6-1, 1-6, 6-4. Senior Jack Haworth (Corby, England) then won his second singles match 7-5, 6-4 to seal the victory for the Bears.

The Bears next host No. 15 Columbia on Saturday, April 21 and Cornell on Sunday, April 22. Both matches will begin at 1:00 p.m.
