Men’s Tennis Concludes Action at ITA Northeast Regionals

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Brown men's tennis team concluded competition at the ITA Northeast Regionals hosted by Yale on Saturday. The tournament opened up play on Wednesday, Oct. 18 with qualifying rounds at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center.

Senior Anthony Arocho (Norridge, Ill.) won both of his qualifying matches on Wednesday (6-2, 6-3 and 6-1, 7-5) to advance to the main draw on Thursday. 

On Thursday, sophomore Jacob Walker (Bethesda, Md.) advanced with a 6-4, 6-3 win and freshman Ching Lam (Sai Kung, Hong Kong) came back to also take his match, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4. Senior Jack Haworth (Corby, England) advanced with a first round bye.

Walker took his match on Friday, 6-3, 6-3. Lam also moved on to the third round with a 6-4, 7-5 victory. On Saturday, Walker was defeated by No. 38 Victor Pham of Columbia, 6-1, 6-1 and Lam also suffered a defeat in the round at 1-6, 6-0, 7-5.

For doubles, Arocho and senior Peter Tarwid (Lake Forest, Ill.) were paired up and won their first match 8-7 before being eliminated with an 8-5 defeat. Sophomore Peter Litsky (St. Petersburg, Fla.) and Walker easily won their first two matches (8-1 and 8-2) to advance to the third round. In their third round match, Litsky and Walker were edged, 8-7. Like Litsky and Walker, Haworth and Lam took their first two matches by a score of 8-5 to make it to Saturday where they were also edged, 8-7.

Brown next hosts the Brown-Bear Duels on Friday, Nov. 10 through Sunday, Nov. 12.
