PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's tennis team hosted the Margaux Powers Invitational over the weekend, competing against teams from Boston College, Buffalo, Bryant, and Dartmouth.
Doubles play was highlighted senior Justin To (Hong Kong) and freshman Brandon Yeoh (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) as the duo teamed up for victories over Dartmouth and Buffalo, 8-1, 8-6 respectively. Another freshman, Jack Howarth, also had a strong debut in doubles as he paired with Anthony Arocho (Norridge, Ill.) to outlast Templeman/Duarte of Bryant, 8-7 (4). Howarth also joined forces with Thomas Nath (Rochester, Minn.) on Saturday to edge Hajdu-Andersson/Lakshmanan of Buffalo, 8-6.
The Bears dominated in singles play on Sunday, recording an 8-0 record including four wins over Ivy foe Dartmouth. Gregory Garcia (Poway, Calif.), To, Peter Tarwid (Lake Forest, Ill.) and Aaron Sandberg (Hudson, Ohio) all claimed victories over their Ivy counterparts on Sunday. Yeoh, Haworth, Arocho, and Ivan Kravtchenko (Sunnyvale, Calif.) each grabbed wins over competitors from Bryant to highlight a strong Sunday showing from the Bears.
Brown returns to action from Oct. 16-19 at the ITA Regionals held at the National Tennis Center in New York City.
