PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's tennis team and new head coach Bryan Koniecko kicked off the 2014 fall schedule this past weekend, hosting the Brown Invitational from Friday through Sunday.
The Bears welcomed in seven teams from various conferences throughout the Northeast in Marist, Colgate, Boston University, UConn, Bryant, Bowdoin, and Merrimack.
Sunday's finals featured freshman Aaron Sandberg defeating teammate and fellow freshman, Brandon Yeoh, 6-3, 4-6, 10-5 in flight two singles play. In flight three singles, Ivan Kravtchenko edged teammate Peter Tarwid, 7-5, 6-7 (11), 10-2, while freshman Jack Haworth finished third, defeating Emilio Teran of Boston University, 6-4, 7-5.
In doubles play, the tandem of Kravtchenko/Tarwid knocked off Pleat/Laub of Colgate, 8-2, to claim the flight one doubles crown. In the flight three doubles final, Lucas Da Silveira and Gregory Garcia teamed up to defeat Walsh/Ortiz of Bryant, 8-3.
The Bears will return to action next weekend for the Ivy Plus Tournament held at Princeton University.
