Men’s Tennis Defeats Dartmouth, 4-3

PROVIDENCE, RI – The Brown men's tennis team (13-9, 2-3) hosted Dartmouth (9-13, 1-5) in its final home match of the 2013 season and edged the Big Green, 4-3. The Bears dropped the doubles point, but came back to win four of the six singles matches and earn the victory.

After splitting matches at #2 and #3 doubles, with Brown's team of sophomore Justin To (Hong Kong, China) and freshman Lucas Da Silveira (Incline Village, NV) winning, 8-4, at #3, the Big Green went ahead, 1-0 by earning an 8-5 victory at #1 doubles.

Sophomore Michael Riechmann (Houston, TX) tied the match at 1-1 with a victory at #1 singles (6-2, 6-3), while sophomore William Spector (Weston, MA) claimed a win at #2 singles (6-3, 6-3) to give the Bears a 2-1 lead.

Junior Brandon Burke (Kingston, Jamaica) dropped his first set at #5, but then came back to win his second and third sets, increasing Brown's lead to 3-1. Junior Sam Fife (Scarsdale, NY) clinched the win with another come-from-behind win, earning a three-set victory (5-7, 6-2, 6-3) at #3 singles.

The Big Green won a pair of three-set matches at #6 and #4 singles to account for the 4-3 final.

Brown continues action with a mid-week match against Harvard in Cambridge at a time still to be determined. Originally scheduled for Friday afternoon, the match was postponed due to Friday's lockdown in Boston.
