#64 Men’s Tennis Completes Weekend Sweep with 5-2 Victory over #37 Columbia

PROVIDENCE, RI – The 64th-ranked Brown men's tennis team (16-5, 2-2) picked up its second straight win, a 5-2 upset over #37 Columbia, to move to .500 in the Ivy League (2-2). For the second day in a row, the Bears claimed all three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Brown then earned wins in four of six singles matches to take the 5-2 victory.

Sophomore Soufiane Azargui (Burlington, ONT), freshman William Spector (Weston, MA), and sophomore Sam Fife (Scarsdale, NY) all went 2-0 in the match, winning in both singles and doubles, while junior Mike Hill (Topsham, ME) earned the Bears' fourth singles victory.

In doubles action, Azargui combined with sophomore Brandon Burke (Kingston, Jamaica) for an 8-7 (4) win at #1, while Fife and Spector combined for an 8-4 win at #3. Junior Tom Deighton (London, England) and freshman Michael Riechmann (Houston, TX) were also victorious, winning, 8-3, at #2.

In singles action, Azargui won at #2, 6-4, 7-6 (5), while Spector won at #3 (6-3, 6-1). Fife also won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0, at #5, while Hill closed out the match with a three-set win at #6, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4.

Brown continues action on Friday, April 20th, when it travels to Hanover, NH to face Dartmouth in a 2:00 p.m. match.
