#64 Bears Edge Cornell, 4-3, for First Ivy Win

PROVIDENCE, RI – The 64th-ranked Brown men's tennis team (15-5, 1-2) earned a 4-3 victory over visiting Cornell on Saturday afternoon to post its first Ivy win of the 2012 season. The Bears won the doubles point, claiming all three matches, and then earned three singles wins to clinch the victory.

Sophomore Sam Fife (Scarsdale, NY) and freshmen William Spector (Weston, MA) and Michael Riechmann (Houston, TX) led the Bears, as each was 2-0 on the day, winning in both singles and doubles.

In doubles action, sophomores Soufiane Azargui (Burlington, ONT) and Brandon Burke (Kingston, Jamaica) posted an 8-3 win at #1, while Riechmann and junior Tom Deighton (London, England) earned an 8-5 win at #2 to give Brown the doubles point. Fife and Spector closed out the sweep with an 8-7 (6) win at #3.

The match would ultimately come down to the early doubles point, as each team picked up three singles wins. Spector won at #3, 7-5, 6-1, Riechmann at #4, 6-0, 6-3, and Fife at #5, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.

Brown continues action on Sunday afternoon when it hosts #37 Columbia.
