Penn Hands #54 Brown Second Consecutive 4-3 Loss

PHILADELPHIA, PA – The 54th-ranked Brown men's tennis team (14-5, 0-2) dropped its second consecutive 4-3 decision, falling to Penn on Sunday afternoon in Philadelphia. Brown won the doubles point, but the Quakers came back to win four of the six singles matches and take the victory.

In doubles action, junior Tom Deighton (London, England) and freshman Michael Riechmann (Houston, TX) earned an 8-4 win at #2, while sophomores Soufiane Azargui (Burlington, ONT) and Brandon Burke (Kingston, Jamaica) clinched the point with an 8-6 win at #1. Sophomore Sam Fife (Scarsdale, NY) and freshman William Spector (Weston, MA) closed out the sweep with an 8-7 (4) win at #3.  

The Bears went ahead, 2-0, after Spector won his singles match #2, 6-0, 6-1, but Penn got on the board with a win at #3 singles. Freshman Daniel Hirschberg (Westport, CT) posted a 6-0, 6-4 win at #6 singles to give Brown a 3-1 lead. The final three matches on the court all went Penn's favor, and all in three sets, as the Quakers edged the Bears.

Brown continues action next weekend when it hosts Cornell and Columbia on Saturday and Sunday at 12:00 noon.
