NEW HAVEN, CT - The Brown men's tennis team (16-6, 3-4) closed out the 2011 season with a 6-1 victory over Yale on Saturday afternoon. Brown won the doubles point by sweeping all three matches and then claimed singles wins at the two through six positions, four of which came in straight sets. Four Bears won both of their matches, including senior Kendrick Au (St. John's, New Foundland), sophomore Tom Deighton (London, England), and freshmen Soufiane Azargui (Burlington, Ontario) and Brandon Burke (Kingston, Jamaica).
In doubles action, Azargui and Burke posted an 8-3 win at #1, while Au and Deighton earned an 8-5 win at #2. Senior Charlie Posner (Cambridge, MA) and freshman Sam Fife (Scarsdale, NY) completed the sweep with an 8-6 win at #3.
In singles action, Burke won at #3 (5-7, 6-3, 6-0), while Au was victorious at #4 (6-4, 6-4). Azargui (6-0, 6-1) and Deighton (6-3, 6-2) both picked up their second wins of the day with victories at #5 and #6, respectively. Brown's fifth singles win came at the #2 position, where sophomore Mike Hill (Topsham, ME) claimed a 6-4, 7-6 win.
