#62 Bears Come From Behind to Edge Boston College, 4-3

WEYMOUTH, MA – The Brown men's tennis team (8-2), which entered the rankings for the first time this season at #62 earlier this week, earned a hard-fought come-from-behind victory over Boston College (4-8) on Wednesday afternoon at the Weymouth Club in Weymouth, MA. The Eagles claimed the doubles point with wins at #1 and #3 and then were one singles win away from clinching the victory with two singles matches in a third set. However, Brown's Sam Fife (Scarsdale, NY) tied the score at 3-3 with a three-set win at #3 singles and then sophomore Timmy Klanke (Potomac, MD) clinched the victory for the Bears with a three-set win at #6.

In doubles action, the Eagles won the first two matches to clinch the point, but senior Kendrick Au (St. John's, NF) and sophomore Tom Deighton (London, England) earned an 8-6 decision at #2 doubles.

The first four singles matches went back-and-forth as Brown tied the score at 1-1 when Au defeated Jonathan Raude at #4 singles, 6-1, 6-4. However, BC regained the lead with a victory at the #2 position. The Bears tied the match for the second time, 2-2, when freshman Soufiane Azargui (Burlington, ONT) posted a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Jonathan Schroeder at the #5 position.

The Eagles again went ahead by one, 3-2, after a victory at #1 singles and were just one win away from taking the match with both the #3 and #6 matches in third sets.

Fife kept the Bears alive, battling back by winning back-to-back sets, 6-4, 6-2, after dropping the first set, 7-5, in his match at #3 against Alex Skinner, tying score at 3-3 and setting up Klanke's match-clinching win.

After winning his first set at #6 against Brendon Wong, 6-4, Wong forced a third-set with a 6-2 win in the second. Klanke would go on to win the final set, 6-4 for the match.

The Bears continue action on Tuesday, March 8, when they host Quinnipiac in a 4:00 p.m. match.
