Tom Deighton Named All-Ivy
Freshman men’s tennis player Tom Deighton (London, England) has been named Second Team All-Ivy in a vote by the League’s eight head coaches. The rookie tallied an overall singles record of 16-6, including a 5-2 mark in the Ivy League while playing at #3 singles.

Bears Fall to #74 Yale, 6-1, in Season Finale
The Brown men's tennis team (10-16, 0-7) closed out its 2009-10 season on Saturday afternoon with a 6-1 loss to #74 Yale at the Erickson Athletic Complex Courts. Brown picked up one win each in singles and doubles with Yale winning four of the five singles matches in straight sets. In doubles action, senior Nathaniel Gorham (Los Altos Hills, CA) and junior Charlie Posner (Cambridge, MA) earned an 8-3 win at #3. In singles action, freshman Tom Deighton (London, England) posted a 6-1, 6-1 win at #3 for the Bears' point.

Bears Fall to Dartmouth, 6-1
The Brown men's tennis team (10-15, 0-6) dropped a 6-1 decision to Dartmouth on Sunday afternoon in New Hampshire. Freshman Tom Deighton (London, England) earned the lone win for the Bears, picking up a 6-1, 6-2 victory at #3 singles. Brown will close out its 2009-10 season this Saturday when it hosts Yale in a 2:00 p.m. match.

Bears Fall to Harvard, 5-2
The Brown men's tennis team (10-14, 0-5) dropped a 5-2 decision to visiting Harvard (12-10, 3-2) on Friday afternoon at the Pizzitola Center Indoor Courts. The Bears dropped the doubles point, but earned wins at #2 and #3 singles to account for the 5-2 score. Freshmen Mike Hill (Topsham, ME) and Tom Deighton (London, England) both won for Brown in straight sets to lead the Bears. The wins brought the Bears to within 3-2 at the time, but the Crimson claimed the final two matches to earn the victory.

Bears Fall to Cornell, 5-2
In search of its first Ivy win of the season, the Brown men's tennis team (10-13, 0-4) came up just short again, falling to visiting Cornell, 5-2. The Big Red claimed the doubles point with wins at #1 and #3, and then went up 3-0 with singles wins at #5 and #2. The Bears made things interesting, coming to within 3-2 with a pair of wins at #3 and #4, but the Big Red earned a pair of three-set wins at #6 and #1 to take the 5-2 victory.

Bears Fall to #45 Columbia, 6-1
The Brown men's tennis team (10-12, 0-3) dropped a 6-1 decision to #45 Columbia (14-3, 4-0) on Friday afternoon at the Pizzitola Center Courts. The Lions swept the doubles point and never looked back, building a 5-0 lead, before junior Charlie Posner (Cambridge, MA) earned a 6-2, 7-6 (2) win at the #5 singles position to get the Bears on the board.

Bears Fall to Princeton, 5-2
The Brown men's tennis team (10-11, 0-2) dropped its second straight Ivy match, falling to Princeton (7-10, 3-0), 5-2, on Saturday afternoon, as the Tigers remain undefeated in League play. The Bears won the doubles point with wins at #1 and #2, but claimed just one of the six singles matches, as Princeton won five of the six in straight sets. Freshman Tom Deighton (London, England) led the way, winning at #1 doubles with junior Kendrick Au (St. John's, NF) and posting Brown's lone singles win, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2, at #3. The Bears' other doubles victory came from freshman Mike Hill (Topsham, ME) and junior Charlie Posner (Cambridge, MA), who won, 8-4, at #2.

Bears Edged by Penn, 4-3, in Ivy Opener
The Brown men’s tennis team (10-10, 0-1) dropped a 4-3 decision to Penn (11-5, 1-1) in its 2010 Ivy opener Friday afternoon at the Quakers’ Lott Courts. The Bears claimed the doubles point with wins at #1 and #3, but Penn posted singles wins at #1, #2, #3, and #5 to earn the 4-3 victory. Two of those wins could have gone either way, as they were decided in three sets, including the match-clinching win at #3 singles. Facing freshman Tom Deighton (London, England) and the third set tied at 4-4, Adam Schwartz was able to hold on for a 6-4 win to clinch the fourth point for the Quakers.

Bears Fall to Furman, 5-2, in Final Non-League Match of the Season
The Brown men’s tennis team (10-9) closed out the non-league portion of its schedule with a 5-2 loss to Furman. Junior Charlie Posner (Cambridge, MA) continued his run of victories, picking up a win at #6 singles and also combining with freshman Mike Hill (Topsham, ME) for an 8-5 win at #3 doubles. Brown’s other point came from freshman Tom Deighton (London, England), who claimed a victory at #4 singles. The Bears also narrowly lost the doubles point, as Furman claimed a pair of 9-7 wins at #1 and #2 to earn the point. Brown continues its road swing with a pair of Ivy League matches this weekend at Penn and Princeton.

Bears Earn 7-0 Win over Davidson
The Brown men's tennis team (10-8) earned a 7-0 shutout over Davidson (9-5) on Monday afternoon, winning all six singles matches, including four in straight sets, and two of the three doubles matches in the victory. Freshman Mike Hill (Topsham, ME) helped to lead Brown with wins at #3 doubles and #2 singles, while freshmen Tom Deighton (London, England) and Timmy Klanke (Potomac, MD) and junior Charlie Posner (Cambridge, MA) all also won both of their matches.

Men’s Tennis Goes 2-1 in Weekend Matches
Thanks to some unseasonably warm weather in the New England area late in the week, the Brown men’s tennis team (9-8) was able to play its first home outdoor match of the season on Friday Thursday afternoon against Fairfield. The Bears were victorious in earning a 5-2 decision over the Stags with some great performances throughout the lineup, while pushing their record above the .500 mark. Then on Saturday, Brown split a pair of matches, again at the outdoor courts, against BC (L, 5-2) and UConn (W, 5-2) to remain over .500.

The Brown men's tennis team (7-7) pushed its record to the .500 mark, while winning its second straight match, a 4-3 victory over Radford. Freshmen Thom Deighton (London, England) and Mike Hill (Topsham, ME) led the Bears with a pair of wins, as the duo won in both singles and doubles.

Men's Tennis Defeats Fairleigh Dickinson, 6-1
The Brown men's tennis team (6-7) snapped a three-match skid on Saturday afternoon with a 6-1 win over Fairleigh Dickinson. The Bears were strong from start to finish in the alumni day match, winning two of three doubles matches and five of six singles matches. Junior Kendrick Au (St. John's, NF) and senior Nathaniel Gorham (Los Altos Hills, CA) helped to lead the Bears, combining for an 8-5 win at #1 doubles and winning their respective singles matches at #1 and #2.

Bears Fall to #64 Middle Tennessee, 5-2
The Brown men's tennis team (5-7) dropped a 5-2 decision to 64th-ranked Middle Tennessee on Tuesday afternoon. Freshmen Tom Deighton (London, England) and Mike Hill (Topsham, ME) led the Bears, winning at #5 and #4 singles, respectively, as the Blue Raiders claimed the doubles point and four singles matches in the victory. Freshman Timmy Klanke (Potomac, MD) also had a strong singles match, dropping his match at #3 singles in three sets.

#70 Bears Fall to #11 Louisville, 5-2
The #70 Brown men's tennis team (5-6) went ahead, 1-0, by winning the doubles point against 11th-ranked Louisville, but the Cardinals rattled off five straight singles victories to win the match. The Bears got wins from junior Kendrick Au (St. John's, NF) and senior Nathaniel Gorham (Los Altos Hills, CA) at #1 doubles and freshman Timmy Klanke (Potomac, MD) and junior Charlie Posner (Cambridge, MA) at #2 doubles. In singles action, Posner got the lone win for Brown, earning a three-set victory at #5 singles.

Xavier Upsets #70 Brown, 4-3
The Brown men's tennis team (5-5), which debuted in the National rankings earlier this week at #70, dropped a tight, 4-3, match to Xavier on Saturday afternoon. Brown was led by senior Nathaniel Gorham (Los Altos Hills, CA), who won at #1 singles and at #3 doubles. The match ultimately came down to the doubles point, as the two teams split singles action with Brown winning at #1, #3, and #6.

Bears Go 1-1 at ECAC Championships against Harvard and Yale
The Brown men's tennis team (5-4) split a pair of matches at the 2010 ECAC Championships, falling to eventual Champion, #62 Harvard, in the first round, 5-2, and upsetting #69 Yale, 4-3, in the backdraw.

In the second match of Friday night's Rock N' Roll Tennis double header, the Brown men's tennis team (4-2) earned a 4-1 win over visiting Lehigh. Playing a slightly different format, the match started with four singles matches. Then, the two teams finished with one doubles match, which was played on the first available court following singles action.

The Brown men's tennis team (4-3) dropped a 6-1 decision to #20 Virginia Tech on Sunday afternoon. Freshman Timmy Klanke (Potomac, MD) led the Bears, earning a victory at #3 singles (3-6, 6-3, 6-4). Senior Nathaniel Gorham (Los Altos Hills, CA) played a close match at #2 singles, falling 7-6 in the first set, while freshman Mike Hill (Topsham, ME) had a close two-set match at #4 singles, falling 7-5, 6-4.

Bears to Host Rock N' Roll Tennis Double Header Friday Night
Tonight will mark another historical landmark for college tennis with the nation's first ever Rock N' Roll College Tennis Double Header. The event comes a year after Brown hosted BU in the first-ever Rock N' Roll match, during which music was played for the duration of the match. It was the first time ever that a college tennis match was played with the Rock N' Roll concept, as Coach Harris and Ed Krass worked to create an exciting environment for the fans and players.

Men's Tennis Opens 2010 With 2-1 Record
The Brown men's tennis team (2-1) opened its dual season with a 4-3 loss to Buffalo, but rebounded to post a pair of wins, over Boston University, 6-1, and Bryant, 7-0, over the weekend at the Pizzitola Center Courts. Brown got solid contributions from its class of 2013, as four freshmen were in the singles lineup against Buffalo and five freshmen occupied the top five singles slots in the victory over Boston University. The Bears were led by freshman Mike Hill (Topsham, ME) and sophomore Jimmy Crystal (South Salem, NY), who were both 4-0 on the weekend. Freshman Tom Deighton (London, England) also had a strong weekend, posting a 4-1 record.

Cerretani Earns Doubles Win over Federer
Former Brown tennis standout, Jamie Cerretani '04 earned perhaps the biggest victory of his professional career on Tuesday. Ranked as high as #45 in the world in doubles (July 2008), Cerretani and his partner, Aisam Qureshi (Pakistan) claimed a 6-4, 6-3 win over #1 Roger Federer (Switzerland) and Marco Chiudinelli (Switzerland) at the Davidoff Swiss Indoors.

Four Bears Compete at Crimson Invitational
Four members of the Brown men's tennis team competed at the Crimson Invitational over the weekend, closing out the fall portion of the Bears' schedule. Sophomore Jimmy Crystal (South Salem, NY) and freshman Luciano Musella (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) led the Bears with four total wins each, while sophomore Andrew Yazmer (Simsbury, CT) and freshman Miles Garrigues (Ridgewood, NJ) earned three and two wins, respectively.

Au and Posner Advance to ITA Regional Doubles Finals
Several players from the Brown men's tennis team represented the Bears this past weekend at the ITA Regional Championships, hosted by Dartmouth. Juniors Kendrick Au (St. John's, NF) and Charlie Posner (Cambridge, MA) advanced to Monday's doubles final, falling to Alistair Felton and Andy Nguyen of Harvard in a close, 9-7, match. This marks the seventh straight year that a Brown doubles team has advanced to at least the semifinals, and the fifth time in seven years that a Brown teams has been in the finals.

Senior Nathaniel Gorham (Los Altos, CA) represented Brown at the 2009 ITA All-American Tournament, held in Tulsa, OK. Gorham was matched up against Lee Singer, from the University of Virginia in the First Round of Qualifying.

Bears Continue Fall Season with Strong Showing at Bruno Classic
The Brown men's tennis team continued its fall season with a strong showing at the Bruno Classic. The event, in memory of Margaux Powers, featured individual matches with players from Brown, Boston College, Binghamton, and Georgetown. Every Brown player that competed earned at least one victory in both singles and doubles, while freshman Timothy Klanke (Rockville, MD) and sophomore Andrew Yazmer (Simsbury, CT) led Brown with four total wins.

Au & Posner Doubles Finalists at USTA Collegiate Invitational
The Brown men's tennis team had three players compete at the 2009 USTA Collegiate Invitational over the weekend with juniors Kendrick Au (St. John’s, NF) and Charlie Posner (Cambridge, MA) finishing as runners-up in the #1 doubles flight. Au also had a strong showing in the #1 singles flight, earning a win over top-seeded and 71st-ranked Mihai Nichifor of Columbia in his first match. Freshman Mike Hill (Topsham, ME) competed in #2 singles, while Posner competed in #3 singles in addition to #1 doubles with Au.

Bears Win Three Flights at Northeast Intercollegiate
The Brown men's tennis team opened its 2009-10 season with a strong showing at its first tournament, the Northeast Intercollegiate. The Bears were well-represented in all three doubles flights, winning the #1 Flight in a Brown-vs-Brown final, and winning the back-draw of both the #2 Flight and the #3 Flight. The Bears also took the top two singles flights, as both were Brown-vs-Brown finals. Junior Kendrick Au (St. John’s, NF) led the way, going a perfect, 8-0, on the weekend and winning the #1 singles flight and the #1 doubles flight.

Cerretani ’04 Climbs to #46 (doubles) in the World
Former Brown tennis standout Jamie Cerretani ’04 has improved his world doubles ranking to #46 in the world, one spot away from his career-high of #45, which he accomplished last July. Cerretani earned two wins at two grand slam tournaments, going 1-1 at both the French Open and Wimbledon.
