Bears Take Second at Florida Gulf Coast Winter Relay Invitational

The Brown men's swimming & diving team competed in the Florida Gulf Coast Winter Relay Invitational on Friday, January 6. The Bears finished with 164 points, behind first place Western Kentucky with 270 points. Bucknell was in third with 116 points, while Shippensberg (36) and Providence College (6) rounded out the field.

The team of senior Eric Brumberg (Sewell, NJ), freshman Richard Alexander (Victoria, BC), and senior Matt Goracy (Pottersville, NJ) won the 300 Fly Relay with a time of 2:36.64, while the team of senior Brian Sharkey (Fords, NJ), Brumberg, and sophomore Peter Volosin (Roanoke, VA) won the 800 Free Relay (100-200-500) with a time of 7:19.27.

The team of freshman Daniel Ricketts (Baltimore, MD), sophomore Kevin Hug (Tampa, FL), and Sharkey won the 300 Back Relay in a time of 2:41.37, while the team of Brumberg, Ricketts, junior Michael O'Mara (Reno, NV), and Alexander won the 400 IM Relay in a time of 3:40.71.

In a separate diving invitational, freshman William Kai Robinson (Vashon, WA) took third with a score of 328.80, while junior Matthew Freitas (Chelmsford, MA) was sixth with a score of 287.05.

The Bears continue action this Saturday, January 14, when they host Penn at 12:00 noon.
