Bears Fall, 170-125, to Cornell in First Action

Providence, RI - Sophomore William Kai Robinson (Vashon, WA) qualified for Zones with his 295.50 score in the one-meter dive, as the Brown men's swimming and diving team lost its season-opener Saturday afternoon to Cornell, 170-125. Senior Michael O'Mara (Reno, NV) won two races, the 200-yard breaststroke and 200-yard individual medley, while taking second place with his 200-yard medley relay team and on his own in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Joining Robinson and O'Mara with first-place finishes was sophomore Richard Alexander (Victoria, BC), who won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:55.26. Alexander also came in second in the 200-yard IM, behind O'Mara, while freshman Ray Grant (Seekonk, MA) took third for the 1-2-3 sweep. Brown's other win was in the 400-yard freestyle relay, as the team of junior Brian Kelly (Weston, MA), sophomore Daniel Ricketts (Baltimore, MD), junior Kevin Hug (Tampa, FL), and freshman Trent Huxley (Bellevue, WA) finished with a time of 3:09.77.

The Bears' next competition will be in two weeks, as they visit Dartmouth for a tri-meet with the Big Green and Navy on Nov. 18.
