Yale Swims Past Bears, 141-103

PROVIDENCE, RI - The Brown men's swimming & diving team (2-6, 2-5) wrapped up its dual meet schedule on Saturday afternoon against Yale and fell to the Bulldogs, 141-103. The Bears won four events on the day and placed second in five events.
Brown started off with a second place finish in the 400 Medley Relay with the team of senior Eric Brumberg (Sewell, NJ), sophomore Grant Garcia (Mercer Island, WA), freshman Richard Alexander (Victoria, BC), and sophomore Brian Kelly (Weston, MA) earning a time of 3:24.54.
Sophomore Peter Volosin (Roanoke, VA) was Brown's top finisher in the 1000 Free, earning fifth place with a time of 9:53.28, while freshman Daniel Ricketts (Baltimore, MD) won the 200 Free with a time of 1:40.64.
Senior Brian Sharkey (Fords, NJ) placed second in the 50 Free with a time of 21.05, while sophomore Robert Reinhardt (Woodside, CA) was third with a time of 21.09. Alexander placed third in the 200 IM, touching the wall in 1:55.49. He then won the 200 Fly, clocking in at 1:52.93.
Sharkey was second in the 100 Free, swimming a time of 46.05, while Kelly placed third with a time of 47.08. Brumberg won the 200 Back with a time of 1:50.14, while sophomore Rob Glenn (Haddonfield, NJ) placed fifth in the 500 Free with a time of 4:49.90.
Freshman Arkady Rasin (Brookline, MA) took fifth in the 200 Breast, swimming a time of 2:11.60. Brown won the final event of the day, the 400 Free Relay, with the team of Brumberg, senior Matt Goracy (Pottersville, NJ), Sharkey, and Kelly swimming a time of 3:05.50.
In diving action, junior Matthew Freitas (Chelmsford, MA) took second on both the 1- and the 3-Meter, scoring a 267.60 on the 1-Meter and a 288.23 on the 3-Meter.
The Bears continue action March 2-4 when they compete in the 2006 EISL Championships, which will be held in Long Island, NY.
