ITHACA, NY - The Brown men's swimming & diving team (2-5, 2-4) dropped a 126-102 decision to Cornell on Saturday afternoon in Ithaca, NY, winning five events on the day.
Brown started the meet off with a second place finish in the 400 Medley Relay, as the team of sophomore Kevin Hug (Tampa, FL), sophomore Grant Garcia (Mercer Island, WA), freshman Richard Alexander (Victoria, BC), and sophomore Brian Kelly (Weston, MA) finished with a time of 3:28.78.
Sophomore Peter Volosin (Roanoke, VA) led Brown in the 1000 Free, finishing in third with a time of 9:56.36, while Alexander led the Bears in the 200 Free, taking fourth with a time of 1:43.95. Senior Brian Sharkey (Fords, NJ) earned a second place finish in the 50 Free, clocking in at 21.26, while senior Eric Brumberg (Sewell, NJ) won the 200 IM with a time of 1:53.00.
In the first diving event of the day, junior Matthew Freitas (Chelmsford, MA) won the 1-Meter with a score of 283.73. Alexander earned a second place finish in the 200 Fly, posting a time of 1:54.59, while Sharkey earned a third place finish in the 100 Free and Burmberg took second in the 200 Back.
Volosin was third in the 500 Free, with a time of 4:49.24. Freshman William Kai Robinson (Vashon, WA) led a 1-2 sweep in the 3-Meter dive, scoring a 255.15, while Freitas finished in second place with a score of 247.80.
Freshman Arkady Rasin (Brookline, MA) led a 1-2-3 sweep in the 200 Breast, swimming a time of 2:14.43. He was followed by Garcia in second with a time of 2:15.36, and junior Michael O'Mara (Reno, NV) in third with a time of 2:17.30.
Brown won the final event of the day, the 400 Free Relay, as the team of Brumberg, Kelly, Sharkey, and senior Matt Goracy (Pottersville, NJ) touched the wall in a time of 3:06.50.
The Bears continue action next weekend when they host Yale at 12:00 noon on Saturday, February 18th. It is their final regular season meet of the year.
