NORTON, MA - The Brown men's swimming and diving team (1-6, 1-5) dropped a 170-120 decision to Cornell on Saturday afternoon. The meet was the Bears' only "home" meet of the season and was swam at Wheaton College. Junior CJ Kambe (Unionville, CT) helped to lead Brown by winning both diving events, while sophomore Ryan Kikuchi (Temecula, CA) claimed first in both the 200 back and the 200 IM.
Brown took second in the first two events, as the 200 medley relay team of junior JD Pinto (Greenwich, CT), sophomore Conor Carlucci (New City, NY), senior Daniel Ricketts (Baltimore, MD), and senior Benjamin Zlotoff (Woodbridge, CT) posted a time of 1:33.82 and Kikuchi earned a time of 9:36.75 in the 1000 free.
The Big Red extended their lead by taking first and second in the next five events, starting with the 200 free. Freshman Alexander Tin (Milton, MA) led Brown in that event with a time of 1:44.11, while freshman John Gayton (Bettendorf, IA) swam a time of 52.31 to lead the Bears in the 100 back. Senior Brett McCrae (Pepper Pike, OH) led the Bears in the 100 breast, claiming third with a time of 58.50, while senior Richard Alexander (Victoria, BC) was third in the 200 fly with a time of 1:54.92. Ricketts then earned Brown's fifth straight third place finish with a time of 21.41 in the 50 free.
Kambe halted Cornell's winning streak by taking first in the 1-meter dive with a score of 275.10.
However, the Big Red picked up where they left off in the swimming events and earned first and second place in the 100 free, as junior Tucker Wetmore (Weston, MA) led the Bears with a time of 47.82, good for third.
Kikuchi led a 1-2 sweep for Brown in the 200 back, posting a time of 1:53.64, while sophomore Wallace Chandler (Glenside, PA) was second with a time of 1:55.20. Carlucci led the Bears in the 200 breast, earning second with a time of 2:08.26, while freshman David Chanin (Studio City, CA) earned fourth place with a time of 4:46.27 to lead Brown in the 500 free.
Ricketts and Alexander earned second and third, respectively, in the 100 fly, posting times of 50.81 and 51.45.
Cornell swam all exhibitions for the final three events, as Brown earned first and second in the 3-meter dive, first, second, and third in the 200 IM, and first, second, and third in the 400 free relay.
Kambe once again led the Bears in the 3-meter, scoring a 268.80, while freshman Jonathan Feldman (Avon, CT) was second with a score of 214.65.
Kikuchi earned a time of 1:54.26 to lead the field in the 200 IM, while Carlucci was second with a time of 1:59.63 and junior Ray Grant (Seekonk, MA) was third with a time of 2:00.52.
Brown closed the meet with the 400 free relay, with the team of Wetmore, Ricketts, Alexander, and Gayton winning in a time of 3:07.84.
