NEW HAVEN, CT - The Brown men's swimming and diving team (3-6, 2-4) swam a strong meet, but fell to both Yale, 175-66, and Columbia, 134-107, in a double-dual meet at Yale on Saturday afternoon.
The Bears got to work quickly in the first half of the meet, winning four of the first five events - the 400 medley relay, the 1000 free, the 50 free, and the 200 IM. Winning for Brown in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:25.37 was the team of junior Eric Brumberg (Sewall, NJ), senior Matt Del Mastro (Whitby, ONT), senior Timothy Wang (South Pasadena, CA), and junior Brian Sharkey (Fords, NJ).
Freshman Peter Volosin (Roanoke, VA) took the 1000 free with a time of 9:31.12, while junior Matt Goracy (Pottersville, NJ) took second against Columbia in the 200 free with a time of 1:45.15, sixth against Yale.
Sharkey won the 50 free for Brown, swimming a time of 21.57, while Brumberg took first in the 200 IM with a time of 1:51.49.
In the 1-Meter dive, sophomore Matthew Freitas (Chelmsford, MA) posted a scored of 254.35, good for first against Columbia and third against Yale.
Goracy took second agaisnt Columbia in the 200 fly with a time of 1:56.08, fourth against Yale, while Wang took first against Columbia in the 100 free with a time of 46.99, second against Yale.
Sophomore Michael O'Mara (Reno, NV) finished in fourth against both Columbia and Yale in the 200 back with a time of 1:58.59, while Volosin took second against both Columbia and Yale in the 500 free with a time of 4:39.17.
In the 3-Meter dive, Frietas finished in second against Columbia and third against Yale with a score of 249.50. Del Mastro swam the 200 breast in 2:09.03, good for first against Columbia and second against Yale.
In the final event of the day, the 400 free relay, the team of Sharkey, senior Matt Zimmerman (Greensboro, NC), Brumberg, and Wang finished with a time of 3:07.02, good for first against Columbia and second against Yale.
The Bears continue action next weekend when they host Cornell at 12:00 noon on Saturday, February 12, in their final dual meet of the season.
