Cambridge, MA - The Brown University men's swimming and diving team (2-3, 2-2) dropped a 194-104 decision to Harvard, on Friday, January 27th, in Cambridge, MA. The Bears won two events on the day, including sophomore Grant Garcia's (Mercer Island, WA) win in the 100 Breast and sophomore Kevin Hug's (Tampa, FL) win in the 200 Back.
Brown's 200 Medley Relay team of senior Brian Sharkey (Fords, NJ) Garcia, senior Eric Brumberg (Sewell, NJ), and sophomore Robert Reinhardt (Woodside, CA) started the meet off with a third place finish, touching the wall with a time of 1:34.83. Sophomore Peter Volosin (Roanoke, VA) took second in the 1000 Free with a time of 9:35.77, while Brumberg took second in the 200 Free with a time of 1:42.63.
Hug took third in the 100 Back with a time of 52.92, before Garcia won the first event for the Bears, clocking in with a time of 1:00.22 in the 100 Breast. Junior Michael O'Mara (Reno, NV) was right behind Garcia in second with a time of 1:01.00. Freshman Richard Alexander (Victoria, BC) took third in the 200 Fly with a time of 1:53.81, while Sharkey finished in second place in the 50 Free with a time of 21.20.
In the first diving action of the day, the 1-Meter, freshman William Kai Robinson (Vashon, WA) took second with a score of 285.53.
Back to swimming action, Sharkey took third in the 100 Free with a time of 46.92. Hug won the next event for the Bears, taking first in the 200 Back with a time of 1:55.22. Alexander was right behind Hug in second with a time of 1:55.61. O'Mara took third in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:13.04, while Volosin was second in the 500 Free with a time of 4:45.26.Senior Matt Goracy (Pottersville, NJ) led Brown in the 100 Fly, taking third with a time of 52.06.
In another break from swimming action, Robinson took second in the 3-Meter dive with a score of 300.75.
Brumberg took third in the final individual event of the day, the 400 IM with a time of 4:03.63. The 200 Free Relay team of Sharkey, Hug, sophomore Brian Kelly (Weston, MA), and Reinhardt took second with a time of 1:24.30.
The Bears continue action next Saturday, February 4, when they host Columbia at 12:00 noon.
