Bears Fall to Harvard, 169-119

CAMBRIDGE, MA - The Brown men's swimming and diving team (1-4, 1-3) dropped a 169-119 decision to Harvard on Saturday morning at Blodgett Pool, as the Crimson remain undefeated on the season. Senior Daniel Ricketts (Baltimore, MD) was Brown's top swimmer on the day, winning three events, while sophomore Ryan Kikuchi (Temecula, CA) and junior JD Pinto (Greenwich, CT) each earned one first place finish.

The Bears started the meet off slowly, as Harvard earned the top two spots in each of the first three events. The 200 Medley Relay team of junior Zack Levko (Wildwood, MO), freshman Timothy Juhn (Plano, TX), senior Richard Alexander (Victoria, BC), and senior David Koweek (Hudson, NY) earned third with a time of 1:36.59, while sophomore Sam Speroni (Sandwich, MA) was third in the 1000 Free with a time of 10:04.63. Kikuchi led Brown in the 200 Free, placing third with a time of 1:43.59.

Sophomore Conor Carlucci (New City, NY) led Brown in the 100 Back, placing second with a time of 54.99, while Levko was right behind him in third with a time of 55.10.

The Bears came in second place in the next two events, as Juhn swam a time of 59.10 in the 100 Breast and Alexander earned a time of 1:55.23 in the 200 Fly.

Ricketts picked up his first win of the day in the next event, the 50 Free, touching the wall in 21.10, while senior Benjamin Zlotoff (Woodbridge, CT) was third with a time of 21.80.

Next up was the 1-Meter Dive, as junior CJ Kambe (Unionville, CT) earned second place with a score of 310.20. Freshman Jonathan Feldman (Avon, CT) finished in third, scoring a 264.15.

The Bears then won the next two events, as Ricketts picked up his second victory, swimming a 46.37 in the 100 Free, and Pinto claimed the 200 Back with a time of 1:53.81. Alexander was right behind him in second place, earning a time of 1:55.67.

Senior Brett McCrae (Pepper Pike, OH) led Brown in the 200 Breast, placing second with a time of 2:19.52.

Ricketts led a 1-2 sweep in the 100 Fly, earning his third victory of the day with a time of 50.30, while Carlucci was second with a time of 51.99.

Kambe once again led Brown in the 3-Meter Dive, scoring a 304.06 to earn second place.

The Bears closed the meet by winning the final two events, as Kikuchi posted a time of 4:04.62 to win the 400 IM and the 200 Free Relay team of Koweek, freshman James Hunter (Canfield, OH), Alexander, and Carlucci swam a time of 1:27.44 to win that event.

The Bears continue action next Saturday, January 31, when they travel to New York, NY to face Columbia in a 4:00 p.m. meet.
