PHILADELPHIA, PA - The Brown men's swimming and diving team improved to 3-4 on the season and to 2-2 in the Ivy League with a 124-117 victory over Penn on Saturday afternoon.
The Bears started the meet with a win in the 400 medley relay as the team of seniors Timothy Wang (South Pasadena, CA), Matthew Del Mastro (Whitby, ONT), and Matt Zimmerman (Greensboro, NC), and freshman Robert Reinhardt (Woodside, CA) finished with a time of 3:29.80.
Freshman Peter Volosin (Roanoke, VA) earned a first place finish in the 1000 free, swimming a time of 9:40.25, while junior Eric Brumberg (Sewell, NJ) took first in the 200 free with a time of 1:43.20. Junior Brian Sharkey (Fords, NJ) led the way in the 50 free with a 21.45 first place finish, while Reinhardt took third with a 22.05.
Sophomore Michael O'Mara (Reno, NV) won the 200 IM with a time of 1:56.39, while Del Mastro took second with a 1:57.31. Wang led a 1-2 sweep in the 100 free with a time of 47.25. He was followed by Sharkey, who finished with a time of 47.33. Brumberg and O'Mara finished in first and second in the 200 back with times of 1:54.73 and 1:56.22, respectively.
Volosin earned his second win of the day with a first place (4:43.54) finish in the 500 free, while Del Mastro took second in the 200 breast (2:08.29).
In the final swimming event of the day, the 400 free relay team of Brumberg, Sharkey, Wang, and O'Mara took first with a time of 3:06.63.
In diving action, sophomore Matthew Freitas (Chelmsford, MA) took second in the 3-Meter (274.35) and third in the 1-Meter (248.25).
The Bears continue action on Saturday, February 5, when they travel to New Haven to compete agaisnt Yale and Columbia.
