Men’s Swimming & Diving Closes Big Al Invite in Third

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Brown men's swimming & diving team finished the three-day Big Al Invite at DeNunzio Pool in third place on Sunday night with 675.5 points. Princeton won the meet with 1100.5 points and Pittsburgh came in second with 818. Junior Connor Lohman (Prospect, Ky.) and sophomore Riley Springman (Tampa, Fla.) posted first-place finishes for the Bears.

Lohman's first-place finish came in the 200-yard breaststroke with a mark of 1:59.40. Freshman Waylon Jin (Berwyn, Pa.) and freshman Carson Christuk (Newbury, Mass.) finished back-to-back in the event, in fifth (2:01.52) and sixth (2:02.78), respectively. 

Springman finished first in the 200-yard butterfly in 1:46.02. Senior Alexander Treil (Needham, Mass.) finished fifth (1:49.97), sophomore Brendan Woo (Wyckoff, N.J.) placed 12th (1:52.38) and freshman Matt Orringer (Ann Arbor, Mich.) finished 14th (1:53.24) to close out the Brown scoring in the event.

Sophomore Grant Casey (North Attleboro, Mass.) finished seventh in the 1650-yard freestyle (15:40.25) while Orringer and senior Cory Mayfield (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.) finished ninth (15:44.39) and 11th (15:48.73), respectively.

Sophomore Willy Lee (Palo Alto, Calif.) placed fifth in the 200-yard backstroke (1:46.59) while freshman Nicholas Brown (Sudbury, Mass.) finished seventh (1:48.92) and junior Nicholas Johnston (Pleasanton, Calif.) finished eighth (1:50.25).

Junior Jack Nee (Pepper Pike, Ohio), Brown, freshman Charles Steele (Katy, Texas) and freshman William Steele (Katy, Texas) finished fourth in the 400-yard relay in 3:02.08. A squad of sophomore Joshua Daniel (Vigie, Saint Lucia), Treil, freshman Sean Han (Hightstown, N.J.) and Springman finished seventh in the same event (3:04.60).

The Bears are off until Saturday, Jan. 16 when they face Harvard and Penn in Cambridge, Mass. for a 12:00 p.m. meet.
