Bears Battle, But Fall To Big Red, 7-2

Feb. 15, 2005

Ithaca, NY - The 9th ranked Men's Squash Team produced another brave performance at Cornell on February 11, but fell short, 7-2, to 6th ranked Big Red squad.

There were strong wins for senior Co- Captain Jay Beidler at #7, 3-0, and Patrick Haynes '07 at #9, 3-1. At #8, Brian Rifkin '06 managed to pull back from 7-0 down in the fifth to 8-8, but ultimately fell, 3-2, in a marathon.

David Krupnick '06 and freshman North Whipple both fell in 4 games. The match of the day belonged to Junior Co-Captain Breck Bailey, who raced to a 2-0 lead playing the best squash of his career. His opponent - a Second Team All American from Canada - clawed his way back into the match to 2-2. All seemed lost at 8-5 down in the fifth for Breck, but through sheer will-power, he fought his way back to hold two match balls at 9-9. Ultimately Serediak prevailed after well over an hour on court. The high level of sportsmanship in this intense arena never waiverd and both players were given a standing ovation.
