Bears Earn First Victory, Topple Amherst 7-2

Providence, RI - The Brown men's squash team recorded its first win of the season with an emphatic win over the highly touted Amherst squad, 7-2. The Bears played extremely well, continuing their good form from Sunday's Cornell match.

There was another standout win by senior Breck Bailey, who fought through painful knees to win in five games at #1. At #2 junior Dan Petrie made short work of his opponent as did seniors Brian Rifkin at #6 and David Krupnick at #4.

Sophomore Edward Cerullo, at #3, played a controlled game to run out a winner in three games too, as did junior Patrick Haynes at #5. The match of the day was with Jacob Winkler who lost the first game, 9-0, and indeed fell 2-0 down in games, only to fight back and win in five.

Next up is Colby, Bowdoin and Bates - all in Maine this weekend.

#5 position: Patrick Haynes, Brown vs Peter Hatffield, Amherst. Brown won with scores of 10-8, 9-6, 9-1.

#6 position: Brian Rifkin, Brown vs Nick Haslett, Amherst. Brown won with scores of 9-3, 9-0, 9-4.

#7 position: Brett Camarda, Brown vs Stu Landesberg, Amherst. Amherst won with scores of 9-4, 0-9, 9-4, 9-0.

#8 position: Jacob Winkler, Brown vs C. McCready, Amherst. Brown won with scores of 0-9, 9-10, 9-3, 9-6, 9-1.

#9 position: Mark Goldberg, Brown vs Tyler Mixter, Amherst. Amherst won with scores of 9-3, 9-4, 9-3.
