Bears Edged By Big Red, 5-4

Jan. 23, 2006

Providence, RI - The Brown men's squash team put up a tremendous battle against the Big Red from Cornell, with the outcome coming down to the last remaining match, before succumbing by a 5-4 margin. The overall score was tied, 4-4, and the final match on court tied at 7-7 in the fifth.

A large crowd at the Pizzitola Sports Center watched enthralled as wins by freshman Jacob Winkler and a fifth game win by senior David Krupnick saw the Bears needing three wins for a victory. Three players were still on court and all three matches were tied at 2-2. Mark Goldberg, having won a fourth game tie breaker in the fourth won, 9-1, in the fifth, and senior Breck Bailey was 7-2 down in the fifth and came all the way back in swashbuckling style to win, 9-7. The eventual outcome came down to the fifth game of sophomore Edward Cerullo's match, and despite a great effort, the game was snatched by the Big Red, 9-7.

Next up for the Bears is a match-up against Amherst at home on Tuesday at 3pm.
