New Haven, CT – The #18 Brown men's squash team dropped a 9-0 decision to #4 Yale Wednesday evening at Yale's Brady Squash Center. The Bears return to action Thursday evening, February 7, against #3 Harvard at the Pizzitola Sports Center's Kate Brodsky Squash Pavilion.
Junior Blake Reinson (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) and kept his opponent on his toes throughout the entire match at number one, but dropped a 3-0 decision. Senior Eamon O'Conner fought hard at number two, before dropping a 3-1 decision.
The #3 seed, rookie Jack Blasberg (Boston, MA) and the #4 seed, senior Chris Holter (Baltimore, MD), both caused trouble for the Bulldogs, but in the end, it was Yale who prevailed in both matches, 3-0. Juniors #5 Philip Holberton (Lincoln, MA) and #6 Charles Lebovitz (Gladwyne, PA) also continued the battle but proved unsuccessful, 3-0. Senior #7 Alexander Hsu played a strong match, taking the second game, 11-2, and adding tough competition throughout his other games in a 3-1 loss.
It was sophomore #8 Avi Bhavnani (Warren, NJ) who came the closest to victory, taking his opponent into the fifth set. Bhavnani won the first and fourth games hitting the squash ball for difficult angles where their opponent couldn't reach. Freshman Ross Freiman-Mendel (Newport, RI) fell at number nine, 3-1.
