Dec. 19, 2002
Tampa, FL - Brown senior co-captain Dustin Branan (Lakeville, MN) was drafted by the Minnesota Thunder at the 2003 A-League College Soccer Draft on Wednesday Dec. 18th.
Branan was one of just 38 players from around the nation and the only player from the Ivy League to be selected in the draft. The A-League is the minor league equivalent of Major League Soccer.
"We are very familiar with Dustin, as he has trained with us in the past," said Thunder head coach Buzz Lagos. "All the coaching reports on the east coast rate him as one of the best at his position. We are excited to have him come home and maintain our solid Minnesota connection."
Branan closed out his career at Brown having started 58 of 62 games played. During his tenure, he helped lead the Bears to 21 shutouts and two Ivy Championships and two NCAA Tournament appearances. A tenacious competitor, Branan scored two goals and three assists for seven career points at the defense/midfield position. He was a First-Team All-Ivy Selection his junior and senior years and an All-Ivy Honorable Mention his sophomore year.
