College Park, MD - After defeating in-state rival Rhode Island, 2-1, in overtime on Saturday in Providence, the Brown men's soccer team will now have to contend with top-seeded Maryland in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Tuesday at the Terps Ludwig Field, beginning at 7 p.m.
The game will mark Brown's first-ever meeting with Maryland, which received a first round bye in the Tournament. The Terrapins are currently 15-4-1 on the year while Brown improved to 11-4-2 with its win over the Rams on Saturday.
The Bears have now advanced past the first round in 18 of their 21 NCAA Tournament appearances. Head Coach Mike Noonan's 2000 team advanced all the way to the Elite Eight, eventually losing to national champion UConn in the quarterfinals.
The Terps are a top four seed for the fourth consecutive year, this year being its first as the top seed. Maryland has advanced to the College Cup in each of the past three seasons while a record eight teams from the ACC earned bids into this year's tourney.
