Providence, RI - The Brown men's soccer team received the sixth seed and a first-round bye in the NCAA Division I Tournament, as announced by the NCAA on Monday evening. The Bears will host the winner of Providence College (9-7-2) and Old Dominion (12-6-3) on Wednesday, Nov. 28 at Stevenson Field.
Head Coach Mike Noonan's team claimed its 19th Ivy League title with a stellar 7-0-0 record this season, and finished 15-1-1 overall. This will be the Bears 23rd appearance in the Big Dance, and its eighth trip in the last 11 years.
Brown's last appearance to the NCAA Tournament came in 2006 after receiving an at-large bid. The Bears hosted Adelphi in the first-round, beating the Panthers 4-1. Brown matched up with #1 Duke in the second round in Raleigh, NC, but fell 2-0 to the Blue Devils. Brown received at-large bids to the Tournament the last two seasons.
Junior Dylan Sheehan (Wolfville, NS) leads Brown in scoring with 10 goals and six assists for 26 points. Sheehan, a Commerce, Organizations & Entrepreneurship concentrator, recently received CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Second Team Academic All-America honors for his outstanding performance on the field, as well as in the classroom with a 3.62 GPA.
Tied for the team lead in goals is senior Kevin Davies (Port Washington, NY) with 10 goals and three assists for 23 points, and junior Darren Howerton (Northboro, MA) is Brown's leader in assists with nine.
