Nov. 19, 2007
Providence, RI - After scoring two big goals for the Brown men's soccer team (15-1-1, 7-0-0)) during their 3-2 double overtime victory over Columbia on Saturday, freshman forward Jon Okafor (Verona, NJ) has been named the Ivy League's Rookie of the Week.
After Columbia went up 1-0 in the first half, Okafor came out strong in the second and put Brown on the scoreboard at the 65th minute. With the game tied at 2-2 at the end of regulation and the first overtime, Okafor came off the bench with three minutes remaining in the overtime, and scored the game-winner 30 seconds later after heading in a corner kick. Okafor has four goals and two assists for a total of 10 points on the season.
The fourth-ranked Brown men's soccer team will now gather this evening at the Pizzitola Sports Center for the NCAA Division I selection show in anticipation of receiving a first round bye, and possibly one of the four number one seeds in the 48-team NCAA tournament.
