Brown falls 2-0 to Duke Blue Devils

Nov. 15, 2006

Durham, NC - In the second round of the NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Tournament, the Duke Blue Devils (17-3-1) defeated Brown (11-4-3), 2-0 on Wednesday evening at Koskinen Stadium.

The Blue Devils came out strong and firing on all cylinders, but Brown sophomore goalkeeper Jarrett Leech (Manakin-Sabot, VA) stayed calm and collected as he recorded four saves for the game. But after 27 minutes of play, Duke went up 1-0 against the Bears after a goal scored by Michael Videira, Duke's third leading scorer, that got past the left side of a diving Leech.

A second goal came just 1:41 into the second half as Duke's leading scorer, Mike Grella, put the second goal of the night past Leech. The Bears had a nice look on goal just a few minutes later as freshman Nick Elenz-Martin (Enicitas, CA) passed it off to sophomore Dylan Sheehan (Wolfville, Nova Scotia), but it was stopped by goalkeeper Justin Papadakis.

The Blue Devils kept the pressure on the Bears' throughout the second half, but weren't able to get anything else past Leech. Senior goalkeeper David Semenza (Honolulu, HI) came in to relieve Leech with 12:32 left in the second half. He posted one save on the night.

With just 2:45 left in the game, Brian Joyce (Silver Spring, MD) took a Brown corner kick that looked like it would get Brown on the scoreboard, but sophomore Rhett Bernstein's (San Diego, CA) header was stopped by Papadakis.
