Providence, RI - The Brown men's soccer team received an at-large bid into the NCAA Division I Tournament as announced by the NCAA on Monday afternoon. The Bears will host Adelphi on Saturday, Nov. 11, at 1p.m. at Stevenson Field. This will be Brown's 22nd appearance in the NCAA Tournament, including its fourth trip in the last six years.
Head Coach Mike Noonan's team finished third in the Ivy League with a record of 3-2-2(10-4-3 overall). Saturday will mark the first time that the Bears will match up with the Panthers.
Adelphi, who is making its first NCAA appearance in 15 years, finished off 11-6-1 winning its first Atlantic Soccer Conference championship. The team's 11 wins this season is the most for the Panthers since 1992 when they finished 11-6-2. Adelphi also qualified for the NCAA's that year, falling to Penn State, 2-1, in the first round.
Brown's last appearance in the NCAA Tournament came in 2005 after winning a piece of the Ivy crown. The Bears beat in-state rival Rhode Island, 2-1, in overtime and went on to the second round facing eventual champion Maryland, losing 1-0.
In 2000, Brown advanced to the Elite Eight of the Big Dance before falling to eventual NCAA Champion UConn. Brown's best finish came in 1973 when it advanced all the way to the Final Four.
Senior Rhett Bernstein (San Diego, CA) leads the Bears this season with eight goals and 16 points. Senior Andrew Daniels (Milwaukee, WI) is in second with five goals, four assists and 14 points. Sophomore goalkeeper Jarrett Leech (Manakin-Sabot, VA) has been Brown's top goalie with a record of 7-3-3 with 66 saves on the season.
