Matt Britner Earns Ivy Player of the Week Accolades

Oct. 24, 2005

Princeton, NJ - For the second time this season Brown junior co-captain Matt Britner has been named the Ivy League Player of the Week for his role in the 25th ranked Bears 2-1 overtime victory over Cornell on Saturday. Britner found the back of the net 5:35 into overtime to lift Brown to its ninth win of the year. The Bears has gone undefeated since Sept. 23, posting a 6-0-1 record. The only remaining undefeated team in the Ivy League, Brown holds a firm grip on first place with a 4-0 record.

Britner, who missed all of last season, has returned to anchor the young Brown defense, which leads the league in goals allowed with just eight in 13 games, including six shutouts. The back unit has not allowed more than one goal in a game since the season-opener back on Sept. 2.

The Bears return to action this Saturday when they will host Penn at 7 p.m. The Quakers are currently in a two-way tie for third place with Yale with a 2-1-1 Ivy mark.
