Oct. 18, 2005
Providence, RI - The Brown men's soccer team entered this week's national rankings for the first time this season. The Bears, who have gone undefeated in their last six games, are ranked 25th in this week's NSCAA Division I Poll, released today. Brown stands at 8-3-1 overall this season, including a 3-0 first place mark in the Ivy League. The team has not lost since Sept. 23, picking up four shutouts since that time, including a 3-0 victory over Ivy rival Harvard this past Sunday. Brown leads the Ivy League in virtually every category, including goals scored and goals allowed.
The Bears have not allowed more than one goal in a game since their season-opener back on Sept. 6. They have allowed just two goals in the last six games, propelling them to first place in the Ivy standings. Junior Ben Brackett leads the team with five goals while freshman Scott Geppert has racked up a team-high 12 points off four goals and four assists. Freshman Darren Howerton is currently ranked 19th in the nation in assists with five in nine games. Freshman goalkeeper Jarrett Leech was named the Ivy League's Rookie of the Week after recording his fourth shutout in five starts against the Crimson over the weekend.
The team will travel to Ithaca, NY on Saturday to take on Cornell in an Ivy match-up set to begin at 7 p.m. The Big Red dropped their first Ivy game of the season over the weekend to Yale, 2-0, to fall to 2-1 in league play.
