Daniels Earns Ivy League Player of the Week

After scoring two goals to defeat Columbia 2-1 last Saturday night, Brown men's soccer player Andrew Daniels (Milwaukee, WI) has been named Ivy League Player of the Week (10/2/06).

Daniels, one of the team's top returning scorers from last season put in Brown's first goal against the Lions with the time at 26:57. The goal was assisted by both junior forward Kevin Davies (Port Washington, NY) and sophomore midfielder Darren Howerton (Northboro, MA) to put the Bears up 1-0.

Daniels proved to be tough when he wouldn't back down when Columbia picked up the defensive pressure. After receiving a pass from sophomore forward Dylan Sheehan (Wolfville, Nova Scotia), Daniels headed the ball into the goal with the time at 42:39 to put the bears up 2-0 before Columbia scored their first goal. Also receiving an assist was freshman midfielder Chris Roland (Rochester, NY).

The win not only increased Brown's record to 6-1-1, 1-0-1, but it also moved the team into second place in the Ivy League standings. Daniels, who has three goals and three assists on the season, leads the team in scoring with nine.

The Bears will head to Boston College for a 7 p.m. game tomorrow and then will travel to Princeton for a 7 p.m. game on Saturday
